Local Artist Jim Toia – The Petri Island Project

Jim Toia,  a local artist and close friend to Scottidesign, recently has updated his website. Last year we started developing and helping him with his newest project The Petri Island Project. He requested that we create an artistic representation of an island inside an empty Petri dish. Not a request we often get. Of course we also helped him with a very cool website to showcase his project.

We developed his website off of a WordPress CMS and created a responsive / interactive front page. A mosaic of sorts where by moving your mouse will move the wall of petri dishes. When you select a dish, you will see a larger version of the dish with more details.

Jim plans to head down to The Studios of Key West this June. He will be embarking on a collaborative installation called “The Petri Island Project: The Keys”, tapping the cultural and individual perspective of citizens in the Florida Keys. The project asks the simple question: “what does an island mean to you?”

With the help of the students, teachers, and adults he hopes to create a unique and interesting exhibit, where the viewer is part of the experience.

Please take the time to visit Jim’s website at: http://www.jimtoia.com/

Schools need websites too!

We have had a very busy year building websites for all types of interesting clients.
Schools are one category that we have enjoyed working with. Once we build the website we are here to help update all types of information. A website that does not get updated regularly is not very effective.

Here is a short list of things we update for our school clients.
Snack menus – this always makes me hungry but since none of our school clients deliver or have a take out service we just have to go hungry.
School Lunch menu – Same as above, I really miss Mac & Cheese or Fish Sticks for lunch. Sadly no take out or delivery is available.
Class schedules – I make everyone in the office participate in “Crazy Hair Day”

Plus we regularly update, Admission Forms, Health Forms, Parent Letters, Calendars, Pictures and more.

I know that building a website is serious business that fills an important need to communicate with parents. We do have fun trying to decide if the picture I found of a chipmunk looks “Happy enough.” Have you ever seen an unhappy chipmunk?

Here are three schools we have built and maintained websites for.
